Intel Results - Chip Giant Reports 3rd Quater Earning Later
Malcolm Penn's Comments Ahead Of Intel Results
The industry has been showing signs of recovery and as such we expect Intel's results to come out at the high end of the initial forecasts.
The fact is that the PC is such a crucial part of our lives now that we can't do without it - and it helps that Intel is also outperforming its competitors.
The weakness for Intel in the longer term is in the notebook computer market. While currently it's a fairly small market, roughly 15m units compared to 250m in the main PC sector, this is an area forecast to double in size this year and one where Intel is not the market leader. Intel does have the Atom but it has some strong competitors and it doesn't have the dominance it does in other areas. Intel is used to dealing with high cost, high margin products and notebooks are a completely different market structure, one that Intel will have to learn how to deal with."
